I am using one of these since 2010, excellent machine and super fast, mine has an Intel Quad Core processor and I added in a BluRay burned and a solid state drive and it is now a seriously fast machine for what was very small money as I bought it for €400 back in January 2010.

You'll find alot of stuff in both Aldi and Lidl comes with 3 year warrantys, power washes etc.

No, I got one of these in Jan 2010 too, and the warranty still has 5 months to run. Never a day's problem with it, mind, and the young fella seems to have it running about 18 hours a day (maybe longer on the weekends). I occasionally get borrow it for processor-intensive stuff like video editing.

Main differences I can see are the AMD Turbo thingy on the processor and the inclusion of USB 3.0, both well worth the extra few quid over the €399 I paid.

And queuing from 6:30am should be a bit less onerous now than in the snow we had that winter....

Aye, the specs of this one aren't as great as previous models.

That 3 year warranty is great though. I'd say it's worth it so long as you're not expecting too much.

I cant really find any reviews of the graphics, would this be better than my 9600gt? i know the cpu will be since i have the oldie e5400 just not sure of the graphics.

I purchased a similar spec machine a couple of years back from Aldi, I was sold on the 3 year warrenty.... Until I needed thier help, the motherboard went. When I called the 1800 number they told me to bring it to the store and they will deal with the courier, went down only to be told the 1800 crowd arrange collection, back and forth one more time and finally got it collected. 2 months later I got the machine back after numerous phone calls and threats of legal action.
Happy days I thought... except 6 months after repair, motherboard went again. This time I suggested I look after the repair and you guys deal with the payment to the repair shop ( PC world ). Median denied it ( I was chancing ). I did get the machine fixed after another 2 months and the same conversation I had 6 months previous.
All going good now, but I would caution everyone, sometimes it's good to be able to talk to someone where it it purchased about support, you get what you pay for.

It`s got a low spec cpu with a basic motherboard and integrated graphics
I've seen AMD FX8150 based PC`s on ebay for around the 450 mark which are light-years ahead!!

maybe , but what sort of guarantee and returns do you get from the eBay seller. this is a grand home pc. nothing fancy , but fine for the price. And hassle free when dealing with Aldi

The warranty is with Medion I think, not Aldi, so you have to ring medion if there is a problem and organise it with them. And a poster in this thread has stated that they had problems with repairs with them.


Not a great deal overall. Id avise having a quick look on dell.ie on their desktop section and ringing them, as they usually give you a 5-10% off if you bargain with them.

Yeah but they are often pieces of junk, always costing more than the sum of their very cheap parts, it's a collection of the cheapest ram, the cheapest possible motherboard, and the most explodey power supply coupled with the a big hot power inefficient 8 core chip is like putting a Ferrari engine in a Lada, they aren't bargains - in short, stay away from Ebay PC's

Pretty sure the first 2 years of the warranty are with Aldi (by law, as the retailer they can't just wash their hands of you), the third would be direct with Medion.

Beefy overkill, except for those who will be playing very recent videogames. good value and warranty, the queu for it might be messy. I had a medion before and would definitely recommend them. For the purpose of back to school, a netbook would be much more appropriate, portable, great battery time, and they wont be playing videogames on it so much (Sorry kids!) I saw a few listings on donedeal recently with decent prices new and seconds. I got a mint one for 203 euro including delivery from laptopsdirect before. And there are always great ebay new desktop bargains from trusted sellers if you wont be gaming the new titles. If you would buy the medion for games, then you should get hold of a dedicated graphics card so you dont burn out the 'turbo mode' overclocking processor. I hope that info is helpful, now back to crushing bones and fizzy magic...

I had the exact same experience as this trying to get Medion to sort the warranty on my Aldi laptop. Total Nightmare

The power socket thing on the side popped out and it was snapped so I couldn't repair it myself, it took 3 phonecalls, each of which I had to go home to my parents house to use the landline because they wouldn't accept mobile calls, or payphones, or any of the phones in college for some reason. That was just to get them to send me the postage label to attach to the box to send it to them. 2 weeks after it broke the courier finally came and picked it up. This was in the 3rd week of September.

So I waited a week, then another, then another. Rang them and they said they'd just received it, another 2 weeks passed, rang them again, nothing had been done with it, I said let me speak to a manager, they said he wasn't there, a note has been left in my file and he'll ring as soon as he gets in, my laptop would be repaired that day, waited another week, didn't hear anything so I rang again, they said nothing had been done with it because Id broke it through abuse even though it was a common problem on the Medion forums and their own mods were telling people that Medion were fixing it for free. Went ballistic and he finally agreed to fix it, said it was being done that day.

2 weeks later I receive an invoice in the post asking for 50-60 euro in parts and labour before they'll touch my laptop. Went ballistic again, screaming for a manager, finally got one to agree to fix it that day and send it back to me, of course another week passes, rang again, laptop hasn't been touched, manager is on holiday, laptop cant be repaired until I pay the bill.

It just went on and on like that, I couldn't believe it, these were Germans I was dealing with aswell and the laptop was in Germany not Asia or somewhere.

It went on for so long that I had to spend Christmas at home that year on the ancient family pc and a 56k connection, this is after sending it away in September, eventually got it back after New Years without having to pay but it took multiple letters, emails, phonecalls and Medion forum posts. No apology but got laughed at a few times on the phone. In future Ill consider the Aldi warranties to be a scam and just give 50 Euro to an Irish repair shop and have it back in a week instead of 3-4 months.

The specs are ok but not mind blowing. That CPU is about the same speed as as a Core i5-2400 with better integrated graphics, however it still only integrated graphics and you won't be playing the latest triple A games on anything more than the lowest settings. For all other home uses bar gaming it will be more than adequate and you could stick a mid-level graphics card in there and get a pretty decent gaming rig (assuming the PSU can handle it).

The chip + apu is surprisingly good for games, Diablo 3 would run, Starcraft 2, Warcraft no prob, basically 90% of games

No its not its miles off, The only decent AMD chip is the fx8150. As I said before you can buy fx8150 based PC`s on ebay for about 50 bucks more

aaahh the nerd in me can't let this slide..


With Windows 7? on ebay? cheapest so far is this ebay PC with half the HDD space, cheapest possible components and comes in at 500 euros with over 50 euros postage and no 3 year warranty.

And secondly, who the flip needs an eight core processor for browsing the internet, pics, films and light gaming when the 4 core proc is more than fast enough for all of those?

I think i remember reading here about that company getting it warranty suport moved from germany to england or similar. This caused massive disruption to customers with faulty units. Think one poster had to resort to the scc, but then again that could happwn with most retailers.

I had the misfortune of having to deal with Medion support, which is now based in the UK at the beginning of the year.

The entire issue took months to resolve, during that time I was without my computer and had to deal with possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

It took legal threats and letters to get the issue resolved so I would urge everyone to avoid them like the plague.
