    Hi there,

I saw this on a car advert:

    TRADE IN TO CLEAR.

Does anyone know what this means ?

    Thanks

They took the car as a trade in and are trying to get rid of it asap I presume.

Most likely would include the "sold as seen" sentence too I'd think.

It means it's most likely a bit rough. :)

Or it could mean , they take your car as trade in - ' to clear this car '

No, it definitely means that they took the car they're selling in as a trade-in and they want it gone fast.

Short answer...if you don't know what this means (or implies) then this is probably not the car for you.

They took it as a trade in, Did fook all to it and it's parked out the back and they just want rid ASAP.

It most probably means they are selling it in the same condition it came into them as a trade-in. Probably mechanically rough as well as cosmetically.

I'd be of the opinion that if it was just cosmetic damage it would either be tidied up and sold at retail or passed onto the trade. If it isn't bought by the trade who can repair it alot cheaper than you or me then there is a bigger underlying problem with it.

We were looking at a car last week and it said - ' low price for fast selling '

Think I now know what that means too :)

( after reading this thread )

    Why ?

Surely it would just mean I've never bought a car before.

    It's not you, it's the seller. :)

I don't think the comment was meant to offend.

Cars that are taken in on trade in and sold like this can be in rough condition cosmetically & mechanically. I buy a few cars like this and the one rule is if you don't know what common faults to look for, or how to diagnose the cause of a rough engine or whatever you could be throwing your money into a hole.

Basically the best people to buy these cars is someone with the knowledge to find any faults, agree a good price and have that ability to repair any faults and sell it on for a few quid.
