Tour Du Mont Blanc 2012

Back a day and still got some soreness from the Tour de Mont Blanc.

Anyone who is a bit sick in the head and interested in spending the best part of up to 24 hours climbing over 7 cols/Alps should definitely consider this one.

330k and 8.1k of vertical climbing makes it the hardest day I have ever had in the saddle.

It’s a fairly hard challenge considering we can only train on mickey mouse hills but its not impossible and is well worth it due to the sense of satisfaction afterwards.

Didn’t break any records but my goal was to get around it and survive so job done.

Some parts I remember and feel able to talk about are descending Les Saisies in the pitch black which is tricky to say the least, watching the sun rise over Mont Blanc from Chamonix, getting lashed by a headwind while coming off the big Grand Saint Bernard solo into Aosta at 38 degrees, blowing up like a H bomb 5k from the summit of the Petit Saint Bernard, getting a complete blood transfusion in a cup of soup before motoring up the Cormet de Roseland completely recovered, then watching the sunset over the Cormet before descending the lake and climbing Les Saisies in the pitch black are just a few bits I feel able to share at this point.

Maybe some day if people are interested in reading it I will do a write up and people could use it as some form of guide or encouragement to do it themselves.
