    Hey everyone,

I ordered a pair of jeans online, shipping from america, which I expect to attract VAT and levies from customs.. Normally when I order from American retailers they use DHL or another courier who pay for customs charges and the charge me later. However this order, was sent using USPS and there's no tracking information. They did however give me a customs tracking number. When Irish customs inspects the package will I they call me to pay the customs charges or will they send on the package with an invoice that I pay later?

    Any help would be appreciated!

If it was sent by USPS then it should be delivered by AnPost when it gets here. They'll send you a letter first asking for you to send the invoice over, once they receive this they'll forward the package onto you and you pay the postman when he delivers it.

Have you tried putting that customs number in as a tracking number on the USPS website?

If it begins with 2 letters and ends in US so example: CK999999999US it actually is the tracking number also. If it looks like that you can follow it in the US on the USPS site and when it hits Ireland you can enter it on the An Post website.

And 5500 says An Post will deliver it and notify you by post of cost.

If its under €650 of value, customer will enter it as general merchandise and charge (I think) 4.5% duty + vat on the total cost including shipping and duty. Unless it is sent by a private individual, the item will have the invoice attached already.

An Post will add a €6.50 charge too for collection and processing of the customs charge.

In most case, the postperson simply knocks on your door, shows you the customs sticker on the parcel and asks for the money. If you can't pay, it is returned to local depot for you to collect.

A customs tracking number isn't traceable. But when customs check the documents they will be send you a letter in the post asking for a proof of purchase invoice only if they have doubts about the CN22 declared value. But If everything passed and processed, the post man will just deliver and collect vat charges at the door.

USPS receipts has the tracking number printed beside what they are calling Customs number for some daft reason. I have had 3 parcels sent by the missus in the last 2 weeks and they are putting a number like this one:

CK999999999US beside the "Customs Form number" and that is the tracking number. Both USPS International Express and Int Priority are tracked when sending parcels or boxes.

When the missus sent me the first box she couldn't figure out where the tracking number was until I looked at the receipt and tried using the Number beside the Customs form number

Need some help. Guy sent me package from america but put my home address in as name of receiver, so basically the package has an address but no name. And the address is a big area, it doesn't pinpoint a specific house.

It was sent with USPS, I'm tracking it at the moment and it is being cleared in Irish Customs since September 4th....

Whats the best thing to do???????

The package is worth about $1400.00

Contact customs and ask why your package is being delayed.

Most likely they only want to see POP, once checked the package will be cleared.

Cheers dude, contacted customs, everything sorted......

Slapped with 350 euro bill to get the goods out of customs, clearance fee, import duty, and vat.

Getting the goods half price abroad didn't work out so well after all, should of studied the Irish customs laws before I threw out the green backs
