Eircom is a Bad Service

I have Eircoms next-generation high-speed internet network Business broadband
(Which is supposed to have speeds of up to 8Mb and congestion free)

    I call BS!

I own my own business and download around 50-100 GB a month, which is probably average for the type of internet start-up I am!

I pay €74.98 a month for this privilege...!

If I was a home user, with that amount, I would hold up my hands and say I was abusing fair usage. And I know homes (with Gaming, Video Streaming, and "Other") that would probably use far more...

I have to remote desktop in... now while that might seem like an easy job... (Fill in 3text fields, 5 clicks or more)

at the moment thats an hour job!

so please suggest what you think it might be and I'll try the fix, and even apologise, other wise don't force me to go into that computer again just to take a screenshot!

Back in march an eircom rep knocks on my door, i open the door and say no thank you.
But then i listen to him and he tells me i can get 7mb and phone with free calls all
    for E37 a month.
I ask him is it up to 7mb and he tells me its up to 8mb but i will get 7mb because of the new fiber optic cable in the area.
    Great where do i sign.

Two weeks later, up and running and i do a speed test... 2.7mb.
So i ring up to be told there is no fiber optic any where in my town and thats the besti can get.
OK it will do, everything ok for about one month then nothing but trouble.
    Speeds dropped,connection problems etc...
Rang up loads of times to fix it, with no joy
today the second engineer came to fix it,
he came in did a speed test and said your line can only take 1mb and for me to ring eircom and tell them.

I should have listened to everyone and stayed away from eircom.
They are some joke and lied to me from the start, every one of the eircom people i
talked to told me a diferent story.
Any one thinking of going to eircom ask around and read all the forums frist,
    the are a joke.....................

You really didn't need to post all that 3 times :D

Anyway, you should realise that none of the people who call at your door from Eircom (or indeed Bord Gais, Electric Ireland, Airtricity, UPC, Sky or any of these utility companies) actually work for Eircom themselves. They're poor sods working for so-called 'marketing' firms on a commission only basis, armed with nothing but what they learnt from a rudimentary 1 hour 'training course', who would do anything to get a sale, including lying bending the truth if necessary.

In the future, don't believe a word they say, tell them to sod off, and do your research online before making any important decisions like that in the future.

Have been with eircom (tried to get upc but have blockers in the area) for a few months now and have had no trouble. Good speeds (synched at around 16Mbit/s) and have been friendly and helpful on the phone and online. When i asked for a tech to be sent out to check the line just in case I could get a faster synch it was done within hours.
I cant comment on their infrastructure (judging from this forum is pretty poor in some areas) but their customer service has been top notch so far. The fibre guys have been messing around at the exchange over the last month so hopefully i can switch over to the fibre service soon!

To the OP, have you tried ringing them up or posting in their forum?

I have contacted them, no response at the moment...

but I feel so insulted that I feel that I want to wash my hands and change broadband companies.

We are still feeling the effects of a recession here, and if Eircom wants to mess around they obviously have too many customers.

You haven't posted your line stats. A speedtest isn't enough to establish there is a problem with your line. You also haven't provided enough information, what devices are connected, by cable or wireless, filters on all devices, tried removing filters, etc. Coming on here ranting won't get you anywhere.

    Why else post here?

I don't work for Eircom btw. Those aren't your dsl statistics, dsl stats is the attenuation and noise levels of your phone line. To get this you're going to have to login to your modem on 192.168.1.254 and have a look about. On the silver Netopia they're listed under Dsl stats but you'll have to enter expert mode to see them. Post them here

When you get home, make sure your modem is plugged into the main Eircom socket. Remove the filter, plug the modem straight in and uplug all other devices in the house, phones, Sky boxes, etc. Then try a speedtest and post stats.

I agree, I was going to help him out until he posted that, but I don't think I'll bother now. The sad thing is that his DSL stats he posted aren't bad, he's synching at 12Mbit/s, and his problem possibly lies elsewhere, but if he's going to be offensive like that, then it'll remain his problem.

That was an old post from me
my broadband was sorted and i was getting 2 and a bit MBs
well with the last week im now not getting 1MB
why do eircom keep cutting this back
and why do i have to chase it up every time they mess it up
When my 12 month contract is up i will be saying goodbye to Eircom AGAIN!
