I have a 1TB Iomega Screenplay hard drive which has started to flash lights as soon as it is plugged in and does not respond or become active with any attempts to turn it on.

Firstly can a hard drive like it be fixed and if so will I lose all data? If it can be fixed where is my best port of call to get this issue looked into?

    have you checked your warranty?
Some of them have 3 years.

Have you tried put it directly into a PC, involves opening the device to remove the HDD which in turn will void the warranty if it still has one.

not worth fixing unless you have photos backed up on it and hope to retrieve them:(

Open it up, put it in to a caddy, 2.5 or 3.5 inch .Cost 15 or 25 euro, all you need is a screwdriver.open case ,remove hard drive, place in caddy.
if drive is 3.5inch ,it,ll need a caddy with power suppy,
2.5inch uses a usb cable for data transmission,to pc, and power .
    http://www.ehow.com/facts_6836310_hard-drive-caddy_.html

All 2.5inch drives work in caddy ,take power from usb cable,
i use em all the time.

sata drives dont need master, slave jumper s ,
just place drive in caddy, slide firmly into
    data,power slot.
    leave jumpers as they are.

    i,m assuming drive is sata,type
    not IDE hard disk.
if drive is over 500gig its likely tobe 3.5inch in size.
do not touch pcb, circuit board, move it really slowyi8, gently.
one shock can break a drive.

If there are photos fo value for you, let me know when you are in dublin and I will try and help.
But if there are only vidoes that can be replaced, let it go.

Have you checked with Iomega regarding any support or known issues for this problem?

Did you check the website for warranty?

Do not waste any money on a caddy as they are usb driven and the drive may not be recognised by a PC, it best to connect the drive directly into a computer to the motherboard for best results.
You may be able to replace the drive in the unit if it is an actual drive problem.
