So i was thinking of cancelling sky as I really don't use it any more. but if i do will i still be able to watch free channels like RTE TV3 etc.

Is it also possible to record these channels, or do you need a subscription too

Unfortunately no on Irish Terrestrial and no on being able to record anything

Have a look here and anything with free-to-air next to it is yours

Thats bizarre , how come we get channel 4, bbc etc and don't get irish channels.

I could set up a pair of rabbit ears and get them :(.

Think i might just tell them i'm cancelling and see if i get a better deal from them , i've been with them for 4 years at this stage

I cancelled Sky a while back but I am not receiving C4/E4/ITV etc since.
All I'm getting are the BBCs and a few others like Challenge and Film 4.

Do I need to scan to get the rest or what am I doing wrong.

    Thanks

Try rebooting without a card and you should get the UK epg.

If its a HD box then it will most likely revert to the Irish epg which will leave you with very few free channels unless you get a ftv card.

Could you use the ftv card to watch irish channels also?

I'm afraid not. Saorview is your best bet.

Ah ok, it is a HD box so thats the prob. I did reboot and the same Irish EPG came up. Oh well, just have to save for the Humax. Thanks Muffler.

    The cards aren't that expensive...probably around €25.

Or if you have any family or friends in N.I. or the UK you could ask if they have an old one lying around that they dont use. You can also contact Setanta and request a free card but there seems to be difficulties with that now as they are asking people to contact them by telephone.

    Hi,

I have an old sky box lying around that I got for free off a friend before, it has no card and I was wondering could I just hook that up to a satellite dish and get all the free channels on that sky list? I have a box from Aldi hooked up to the dish at Astra 28.2E.

    Thanks.

If its not a HD box then I cant see any reason why you wouldn't pick up the free channels providing the box is still working :)

    Interesting why?

Thanks Muffler. I might just stick to what I have for the time being until I can afford to buy a PVR but my sis would prob be interested in this. Thanks again.
