Be very interesting to see what kind of prices they come up with. More competition can't be a bad thing.

We’re confident of delivering the right products at the right prices so customers have a real alternative to the incumbent services they’ve been used to.

Regardless what they do, a large portion of us will continue to be limited by only having a telephone line option for broadband, and in many places connected to exchanges that are not enabled for any reasonable broadband speed.

Any shake-up to the present status is welcome IMO.

Hopefully it will result in better value for those in areas where there is competition.

I thought they provide the broadband through the satellite dish? Any way the more competition the better. :D

    It is via telephone lines

Still very interesting to see, how competitive they come into the market with their price strategy.

Hopefully the final phase of this will be the introduction of Anytime Plus....

I would be very surprised if UPC lost customers to Sky for broadband.

Surprised they didn't go with Vodafone for this as BT sold off their residential phone/broadband business to Vodafone a while back.

...oh and BT are a huge competitor in the UK. Weird choice.

NOOOOOO!!!! More SKY sales guys calling to the door then!

But on the plus side once we get an idea of prices we can chat with the current SP for a better deal!

Absolutely. Sky broadband will use the copper wire in the ground same as all the other operators, Eircom, Vodafone.....etc. Speed is dependant on the quality of the copper wire. So while you might be getting a 8mg package in reality if you check you may not be able to get near that. In my house I was told ( by an Eircom engineer who was testing the line ) that the maximum speed I could get was 1.3mg, limited unfortunately by the quality of the phone line.

After changing suppliers on numerous occasions I ended up having to sign up with UPC. Despite all the criticisms of them it was the best thing I ever did. Cabled speed of 25mg, rarely gives problems.

Can only get DSL in my area - so should be good news for me!

Currently paying €40 for phone and 3mb - so a Sky bundle deal would save me money.

If it is indeed a DSL offering only .... will Sky allow Sky Anytime over a UPC connection?

Until earlier this year Sky Anytime was only available to Sky BB customers only. They then opened it to all broadband providers.

It is still unavailable to all Irish customers.
