Not sure what to make of this one. Its getting decent early reviews but it looks like it could end up being pants.

From IMDB "When a group of misfits is hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for."

Wouldn't be a fan of jumpy camera films. Looks crap

I am well and fucking truly sick of "Found footage" films. These days, they're all done in that style for unnecessary reasons. Could be a decent movie, but that alone is enough to make me hate anyone responsible for it.

    Sweet Jesus... this was awful!

This couldn't possibly be the same film that was praised by various critics and horror reviews sites.

Disjointed, dire performances, horribly contrived and unoriginal.

    Avoid!!

Saw it at the Horrothon today and thought it was good fun. Uneven, as is to be expected from an anthology film, but overall it was a solid if overlong experience.

The first section - "I like you" - was a twisted fun. Thoroughly enjoyable and nasty, with a pleasantly absurd conclusion.

I thought the second section - the road trip one - was the Joe Swanberg directed segment (since he starred in it), but I see it's actually Ti West's. Bit disappointing, TBH, given that I'm usually a fan of the director's stuff. The slow-burning delivery is well-handled, but it's undone by an unconvincing, sudden ending that doesn't justify the considered pacing of the rest of the short.

Thought the third bit - the lake segment - was the weakest. Some nice effects, but just silly overall.

The webcam section - the actual Joe Swanberg segment, which isn't actually surprising given his fondness for deconstructing obsession with technology - was decent, and had an endearing sense of dark humour. Like most of the pieces, it ends weirdly, but this is probably the funniest and most traditionally scary of the lot.

I don't know why, but I loved the last bit. It was old school and simply delivered, but just thought the director - Radio Silence? - managed to create this convincingly ****ed up situation. The effects were fantastic - creepy and imaginative. Let down a tad by yet another cheap ending, but this was mostly a superior short.

'Meh' to the main arc stuff.

Uneven then, but overall I enjoyed my time with V/H/S. Very, very rough around the edges, and some sections are much stronger than others. Definitely could have done with a slightly leaner running time. A worthwhile trip to the cinema, even if the aesthetics are militantly small screen ;)
