A4 / HPI Check Help

Alright folks, went to look at a 06 1.9tdi Audi A4 yesterday... seemed like a real beauty of a car, apart from the fact I thought there was a small grinding-like noise when I was turning? Any ideas what it could be or if it could be a big underlying problem?

Also the car is in Northern Ireland but sitting on English plates I believe. Is the HPI check the best check I can do? And am I right in assuming that they only stand by you i the car is bought and registered in the mainland UK?

    Many thanks,
    Ken

Have you gone through the service history thoroughly and called the garages who serviced the car to make sure that the work was done as per the book? Do this before bothering with an HPI check. If the service history checks out then run an HPI check, making sure to supply all details including the V5 serial number and issue date. If the check cpomes back clear then you can have a mechanic you trust look at the car before handing over any money. Don't skip any of the above unless you're looking for trouble.

Yeah probably the biggest mistake I made was not asking for the service history yesterday.... the killer for me is that the car is a good hour and a half away so thats why I want to run a HPI check now before bothering to go and look at the car again and I'd assume the seller would provide me with the VIN and VRM over the phone. I'm currently searching for somebody I know who'd know a lot abut cars to give it a thorough check, but again its hard as its an hour and a half away and my mechanic is busy nearly 100% of the time.

I don't know if this makes a difference but the seller is a registered company (sells and buys a few cars) and I noticed on other cars he gives finance and a guarantee. Would it be worth asking would he do a guarantee on this car, or do they even hold up if anything were to go wrong?
