Just wondering how long my NCB (5 years) will last without me actually driving or owning a policy?

My last policy was up Oct 2011.

Well. Car sold again and am looking to try suspend my NCB (now 7 years) so it lasts longer than 2 years.

Is there any way of doing this or am i stuck to insure someone's owl banger for a few hundred every 2 years?
