school athletes coming through together

Just wondering is it a coincidence that talent in schools seems to come at the same time? Or is it a case of having good athletes driving each other on in schools helps?

Coming up to the Olympics one of my class-mates is running the marathon - Mark Kenneally. My school (Salesians, Celbridge) wasn't really renowned for athletics but looking back we had 3 lads who have made an impact of sorts and they came through at similar times. Kenneally, Alan O' Brien (good 1500m runner) and Mark Doyle (very good triathlete/runner). Haven't really heard of many coming through since those 3.

We had an annual road race in school which all 3 i named won at some point, 4.7km route, Kenneally winning 4 times, Doyle 3, Alan 1.

Anybody have a similar experience in their schools where athletes seemed to come through together in a purple patch or is this just a coincidence?
