Signs left on trails/forest walks

    Hi,
I regularly walk in ballycuggeran near Killaloe, and always there seems to be an ever growing amount of runs and mtb events going on it the wood, which to be fair can only be a good thing.
Problem is the put signs up around the wood to give competitors directions and never seem to take them down!
Last weekend the place was plastered in A4 laminated sheet tacked to trees and posts, there's also little timber arrow sprayed with illioumous paint around the wood from a previous event.
People also seem to spray trees with paint which looks awful.
Just wondering if this occurs elsewhere and is the anything that can be done?

Who owns the land? Normally event organizers have to ask permission from the landowners to run organized events on their land, although this may not always be adhered to. You may try contacting the landowners and seeing what they say. Removing all course markers after the event is normally a precondition of giving permission for events such as these, so they may be able to apply some pressure.

It's a coillte forest so might ring them, I emailed the last crowd that ran an event no word back yet. So will wait and see.

There was a thread here a few months back about a similiar problem in Lug, from what I remember the MCI took a very serious view of it.
If they are leaving laminates around, that could be covered by littering, perhaps get on to the local county council, a few hefty fines dishes out will quickly put a stop to people leaving markers behind.
