Anyone in the woodwork machines sector?

    Hi
    I am an unemployed wood machinist hoping to return to college to study engineering. I would'nt like my apprenticeship to be wasted as i loved what i did so after college i would like to get into woodwork machines(mainly CNC's) maintenence.Is there anyone working in this area that could give me advice and also i am thinking of doing Mechatronics would this be the course to do?

    Its probably the best Engineering course for what you want to, however you might feel by the end of it that you will want to outgrow the maintenance aspect.

    I did Mechanical which had a fair crossover with mechatronics, so I assume you have modules for programming, design, mechanics etc?

    would you be interested in working for the machine OEMs? surely they would value your hands on experience. you could well invent the next greatest machine

    Thanks for your reply, yes it is worth thinking about something i never thought of. Is there any companies in Ireland in this sector?

    Ive no idea off my head. But ive been shocked again and again at the breadth of manufacturing that happens in ireland. We have a huge amount of niche manufacturers hidden in industrial parks.
    So having a CNC tool manufacturer is not unlikely.

    I personally started a job here in ireland recently with a company making industrial lasers and optics. I didn't even know their name a few months ago but we have a ton of clients who I have also never heard of.
