    Hi,

I'm looking for a wheelset for training, the 2012 aksium look to be better than the 2010 wheels with brass nipples as the road salt on the 2010 and older wheels caused problems,I had a older set before and I had no Probs with them and I was very happy with them,I only done about 2500/3000k on the but I intend doing a good few k more on them this winter,I'm just wondering what lads think of the 2012 aksium wheelset before I make up my mind,

    Cheers zip,

    Hi zippe,

I upgraded to the Aksiums back in february and i have to say i find them a fantastic set of wheels, very fast rolling and they seem to be fairly robust, one thing i found with them was that they are a bit twitchy if the wind is blowing from the side on,maybe something to do with the bladed spokes? other than that i wouldnt hesitate in buying them again.

I upgraded to aksiums from shimano R501's a month or two ago due to dropping a chain behind the cassette and buckling my back wheel, I honestly notice no difference, and probably wouldn't have upgraded if I wasn't in a hurry. That's not to say there IS no difference, I just notice no difference, apart from the noisier rear hub when freewheeling...

    Cheers lads,

I hard to know what wheels are best, some lads say stay away from shimano wheels and go with mavic and others say the opposite,I just want a good wheelset that looks good and rolls good and that will stant up to the winter mths,

    Thanks for the feed back,
    Zip,

Have them on my new bike, rolling very smoothly. Went through a serious pothole earlier this week, no problem!

Got the Aksiums on my Scott Addict I bought 6 months ago. Found front wheel weak. Thought this was just me and a couple of pot holes that put it out of true twice now, but have read this on a few blogs. Late Aksiums have lost a few grammes in weight at the expense of robustness. Bought a second hand Mavic Kysirium for the front and its doing fine. Would try the Fulcram race if I were to have the choice. Good luck.
