    Hi everyone!

I've been looking through boards for some information on this course and can't seem to find anything. I'm starting it this September and was just wondering if anyone knows anything about it.

I have heard that it is an extremely difficult course and requires a lot of work. Does anyone know the hours as I need to decide whether to commute or live in Maynooth for the year.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks :)

Ive just completed this 2012. Its not difficult at all once you stay on top of all the CA. I cant remember the hours exactly but its about 30.

There is a good bit of repetition in this course.

It would make it a lot easier if you did move up.

If you have any questions fire away.

Most of us had jobs before we finished, pending results of course.

How many did the course and what was most peoples background obviously maths or science grads would find it easier then arts undergrads? and when you say jobs in what areas (development or testing)?

Yeah I guess, I did my degree in Pure Maths but I think 1 or 2 others who did arts also got firsts.

+1 on this.. Finished just over a year ago and had a job secured before I even got my final results(as did quite a few in my class). Anyone that I know from the course had got a job in that area by the end of the summer.

Best decision I have made was doing this course, had prev done degree in accounting and got average enough results, spent a year looking for a job in that area and failed miserably.

What area did you get a job in? I'm coming from an accounting background myself. Did you do your undergrad here and how did it compare in difficulty and hours?

I got a programming job, mostly development and support.

Yes I done the undergrad there too, the Hdip is a cake walk compared to the BA Acc + Fin I thought anyway.. I put in 1/2 the effort and work (at least third year, maybe not first year :) ) and got much higher grades.. Hours are pretty much the same 30~ but some of the first year modules that you do are quite repetitive and you can get a first while only going to half of the lectures.

They also run a 2 week crash course before the first semester for the Hdips to catch everyone up to speed in terms of basic Java etc so the first year modules and parts of the second year modules(algorithm's and data structures) are gone through in these two weeks very quickly but is invaluable when actually doing them again in lectures.

Only real tricky modules in the course are Networks and Operating Systems.

    Hi all,

I am currently just finishing up my arts degree now at NUIM and I have applied for this HDip in September. I have a few questions about it, if anyone wouldn't mind answering:

    1. Do you need to be a 'maths head' for this course? My mathematics is pretty rudimentary but I can manage.

    2. Are there any modules to watch out for so I can possibly do some prep work for?

    3. What type of companies does this course suit, and is it likely to get a job after it?

    Thanks all!
