Was in O Briens Sandwich Bar in Midway Foodcourt Portlaoise last weekend. Had a raging hangover so got some powerade opened it while in the queue.
Was charged €2.80. Nearly dropped. Rip off Ireland is alive and well.

Nah moral of the the story is always buy your drink in a regular shop. Whether your getting a sangwich or chinese takeaway never buy the drinks there.

What Ireland needs is Pret A Manger, but the brits deem us not worthy

Next time in UK check their prices - they are HORRENDOUSLY expensive for sandwiches and drinks. They are nice as a chainstore sandwich company, (most sambos are over €5) but it would be almost in the "treat" area rather than the everyday sandwich area that I'd put them into.

as for 2.80 for powerade - don't forget this is a "restaurant" - albeit a sambo restaurant. You do pay a premium for seats and staff for cleaning up and all drinks will be more expensive than a regular shop where powerade is usually about €2 - €2.40.

i take your point sandin regarding restaurant costs etc but i still think its excessive. Because I've been charged so much i will be hesitant to use O Briens again. In the current environment a lot of places are doing sambo and drink deals just to get people in which i think is a better long term strategy for a restaurant than pricing high.

The morale of the story for me is look before I leap :D

I avoid O'Briens like the plague. They are an unwelcome remnant of the Celtic Tiger era. Have always charged ludicrous prices for very small sandwiches/baps.

It's a pity they were revived after the previous owners bankruptcy.

It's expensive for what it is, but a trippledecker is still delicious. :)
