Seat Position

    Hey ppl,

Need a bit of advise on the seat position. I've been having a lot of problems with a creaky saddle/seat post. Two different LBS have looked at it and cleaned & lubed the seat post but I still had the same sound.

I removed the seat from the post last night, gave it a good clean and a small spray of lube. I adjusted the seat to point slightly down but it didn't like the riding position for obvious reasons.
I tilted the seat back before I went home with no creaking from either the seat or the post.
Just wondering if there is any negatives to riding with the seat tilted back?

Whatever works for you, just watch out for numb important bits!

I had a similar creaking issue. Finally isolated it to the saddle itself - the plastic part of the saddle was creaking against the rails.

Eventually i started to find the rhythmic creaking comforting....

I'm struggling to work out my position of my seat, i was told start with using the elbow the finger measurement from tip of seat to handlebar stem. when im riding on the hoods it feels perfect but when I go down to the drops it feels like I'm wanting it further back. Going to try sliding it back a little for my next ride and go for trial and error but is there a hard rule for the seat position?

You can also angle the saddle. Maybe your angle too sloped dow and pushing you forward. Buy a quality saddle.

How do they effect the seat position? You think it's moving?

I've read that when the crank is forward and horizontal to the ground, if you drop a plumb line from the front of your knee cap it should be level with the pedal axil.........
This was described as a rule of thumb.
Now I'm not sure how u could do this yourself.........You did ask.

So if the plumb line was beyond the pedal axil you have to move the seat back and vice verse.

It may be amusing for you all if I film myself trying to do this
Thanks for the advice I'll have a bash off it tho and let you know how many times I fall over haha
