Yea its well worth joining. You get a magazine every month and after you graduate you get to put AMRSC after your name. There are a lot of web resources available to you and it looks great on a CV/ funding proposal. IIRC you can get a discount if you pay for a 3 year subscription

It is relatively cheap and you do get a magazine with an occasionally interesting article.

I am getting chartered by the RSC through work, but to be honest its hardly worth the while (it is not costing me any real time and effort and it was at my manager's suggestion). For a chemist being chartered or a member of a society is of no real benefit. Noone will ever ask you at a job interview are you chartered. We seem to be pretty distinct from a lot of other similar professions that way.

I think the membership is quite good, is you have an interest in chemistry in general. Info on talks, discounts on books and their monthly publication ChemistryWorld is very good.

Make sure you enter in your membership number. Your default password will be your date of birth. Read it carefully, I remember I had some trouble when I first joined too but it was only a case of knowing WHERE on the site to properly login.

Interesting! I've actually heard really good things about this. I'm not sure if it's the same society, but my gf told me about her former classmate from the states, who got offered a very good job by having his CV on file with either the RCSI or the ACS, can't remember now which one.

He was doing postgraduate medicine at the time, but dropped out to take the money was so good. He didn't even have to apply.
