I've a 2003 Nissan Micra which I've had for 3yrs now, have one 2yr old & need room for another addition in near future. I've only done 11k mls in 3yrs, I mainly use it for short village hops, creche pick-ups and 4/5 country runs a year.

So I'm looking for small/medium family hatch which has good boot size too fit buggy/shopping etc, would prefer 1.4, tax, fuel wise. Budget €3.5K max!

    Thinking 1.4 - focus/astra/octavia/megane
    1.6 - focus/avensis/

So far I'm vering towards 05 Focus / 05 Octavia, any ideas would be welcome, would prefer hatchback model.

    Thanks in advace

    Avoid Megane.

Astra and Focus are good options.

Octavia is a good car and has an extremely big boot so easy to put in buggy shopping. Focus has smaller more limited boot. Overall I would go for the skoda i just like octavia's.

A petrol focus should give you years of good service if it's been looked after. The 1.6 is superior to the 1.4 and try and get zetec spec or higher.

A Mark V Golf? The 1.6 would be a better engine than the 1.4, though.
