Installing a Fireplace using Reclaimed Materials

    I'm planning to source a wooden mantle and a stove from a local reclamation yard and was wondering does anybody have any recommendations for someone to install everything? The plan is to fit the stove into the existing fireplace (it'll be a non-boiler stove) and build two columns either side of the fireplace (finished to blend with the walls in the room) to hold the mantel in place.

    Also, what kind of money do you think we are talking about for such an installation? Cheers

    last week i was looking at reclaimed wooden mantel and was quoted from €90 to €180 for 15cmx25cmx140cm... hope that helps... pm me for recommendation on choice of architectural salvage yard

    The main considerations with using a wooden mantle is that you can't put a combustible substance within 300mm of your appliance...

    I've often found that you can run into problems when trying to install a free standing stove in an existing fireplace because of the hearth size, you need a minimum of 225mm from the door of the stove, an exising open fire hearth normally will not give you this, so you may have to replace the hearth...
