I will be buying this because anything I have purchased from that brand has always been great.

Don't think that's how it works, but an amusing image nonetheless! :)

Just saw someone asking the question over in the Gardening section and according to Avns1s

"IMO you'd be better off getting one from a proper tool hire / sales shop. I have seen loads of these aldi and lidl petrol driven tools and they are inferior. Clutches in particular seem to be a weak point and parts are not available. Fine if it packs in during the warranty but otherwise.....! They are not up to any amount of work. You basically get what you pay for. At least if you buy from a tool hire place, you know that if something breaks, the parts will be able to be sourced.

Having said that the lidl and aldi electric power tools are better than the petrol driven stuff again in my opinion. (Just in case someone comes back saying that all their tools are excellent and by extrapolation, these items should be top class.) "

Anyone else have used this strimmer?

~17.5lbs in weight with juice in it !

Even if the harness works correctly that is a heavy piece of kit to be lugging around a large garden.

That doesn't always work out to your advantage. I needed a spare part for a McCulloch petrol mower and went back to the place I bought it from, only to find they no longer dealt with the supplier because the supplier was "crap". The part was only about €20 but anyone in the area who could get me one was going to charge about €10 on top for postage from Dublin. In the end I got the bit for €15 when I happened to be in Dublin for some other reason.

Our local suppliers (Kerry) of most things are notorious for dropping lines and suppliers in general, and it's a pain in the arse trying to get spares for brands they no longer deal with.

Strimmer-wise, I've got a Flymo strimmer and it's been nothing but trouble since the day I got. That's another brand no longer supplied by the people I bought the original from.:(

I'd have no qualms with buying one from Aldi/Lidl, because I think that the quality of a lot of the one-time decent brands is no better than the stuff the discounters come out with.

You do know there is a 3 yr warranty with this? You can beat it to death, if that takes your fancy, and get a refund if it packs in. If this happens after 3 yrs, then you've got a good run for your investment IMO.

Have to say this is incredible value and with additional fittings such as blades its an excellent price. The warranty offer also is very good and the addition of a measuring fuel mix bottle is a handy thing. My own one gave up the ghost recently and the chap who tried to repair it mentioned the main cause of these machines breaking down is incorrect fuel mixes which burn out the pistons.

Also, worth remembering that Aldi/Lidl commission well known manufacturers to make these lines for them. Someone mentioned that a Lidl petrol chainsaw was in fact a rebadged Husqvarna.

I suspect this is a heavy duty strimmer given it has blade attachments requiring more power to drive blades as opposed to line, Just a thought!

It is indeed and its also a fantastic chainsaw indeed.:)
That strimmer is also an an industrial strength strimmer and BRUSHWEOOD CUTTER too.

It has a 25m metal cutting head for heavy undergrowth that strimmer line wil not cut through.

I have had a bit of a Google around, and it seems that the line for these strimmers is the same line used on JCB and McAllister strimmers. Sure, they're not Husqvarna or Honda, but roughly on a par with what you will buy in B&Q or Woodie's for the same price (though the additional blades are a bonus). Thing is, neither Woodie's nor B&Q will offer a 3y warranty.

Strimmer looks decent. but i've decided it's probably still a bit too pricey for the twice i'd ever use it.
    Not trying to hijack, but don't think there's a point in starting new thread either;
Has anybody had experience with the Lidl Electric Chainsaws before?

Both seem like bargains, I'm just always a bit dubious about electrical stuff from Lidl/Aldi, n figure a chainsaw may not be the best product to test this with...

Jesus, the strimmer was sold out by 8.15 in tullamore this morning.

that is not how aldi/lidl work . i had a chainsaw that failed in the second year of light use. They worked out that i was only entitled to a third of the value of the item because i had used it for 2 years

None in Sallins, one of the staff said there were people queuing at 0830 to get one.

That's not how guarantees work. A trip to the small claims court would sort them out. Consumer law states that you are entitled to Repair, Replacement or a Refund.

I picked one up this morning on the Finglas Road. Last one on display too.

I have both of these and they are good bits of kit. I'd be the kind that would push them towards the limit and they have both held up well. Daughter grabbed the last strimmer in Portlaoise for me this morning around 8:02am ! Hoping the weather will last tomorrow so as I can give it a run out.

This is the same model as the lidl one:

I know it's mad they told me on the Waterford branch on the Cork Road that they sold out in a matter of minutes as well as in Ardkeen Tramore and New Ross.

Agreed about the hedge trimmers, I've had mine from Lidl for a few years now and it's excellent.

It won't be as good as a Maruyama or similar kit which costs about 5 times the price, but it can't be any worse than the tat sold by the DIY places and will be fine for people doing a few jobs for themselves.
