Eating before commute

    Morning all

Just in work after cycling in from Blanch. I'm only at this cycling to work last 4 weeks and must say I love it. Ordering a new bike this week as well!

I normally eat when I get into work. Basically jump straight up out of bed, shower and hit the road.

When I get in, I have a healthy breakfast of oats, blueberrys, flax seeds and a banana. Keeps me going for ages when I'm in.

But, can someone tell me if just getting up on the bike and cycling in before my body knows what's going on is a good idea / bad idea.

    Thanks

No harm at all. I never eat before my (23km commute) - just when I get into work. I've seen something recently suggesting this is actually better for you than fueling up first.

Cheers. I wondered if I was doing more harm than good.

I used to have cereal when I got in but found myself crashing around 11.30/12 but what I have no if far, far better.

Same here, I actually feel sick if I eat first and then cycle hard. But I need a couple of espressos to get me out the door: apparently caffeine helps kick off the Krebs cycle (ATP release), which gets me as far as work.

And here was me thinking about getting an Nespresso machine!

My commute into work isn't as long, only 10km but once I get a nice shinny new bike I'll hopefully be out at weekends as well.

I eat before my commute. Usually a bowl of porridge on milk with banana. It keeps me going untill around 10, when I have few slices of brown bread with jam and an apple.

Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. I do a 35km cycle before work around 3 a week eat breakfast (bowl of cereal with trail mix and flax seeds) and find I'm starving when I get home.

Do you cycle before work and then go to work other way than on a bike?
If yes, then you are doing it wrong ;).

I cycle before work then back home pick up my clothes and cycle onto work.

I combine the best of both - I eat before and after (usually starving around ten). I commute 21k in after a bowl of porridge and then have a fruit scone or similar after.

I have a glass of water and then cycle 25km. I don't bother with breakfast beforehand. Coffee and a pastry after my shower and I'm sorted.

For me, it's up gear on - knock an espresso back and out the door.

Shower and breakfast when I get to work.
