    Well, again, it depends on the industry. If you sell food products the most cost-effective way could be to have a food and recipe blog... If you sell services it could be good SEO... and so on.

    Each industry has its own cost-effective ways depending on the niche, the audience, the marketing budget, and how professional your website looks (in fact, boosting your traffic may be a waste of time if your website doesn't convert!).

    In general, the following will boost your online traffic:

    1) on site SEO
    2) writing a useful blog
    3) off site SEO (backlinks)
    4) pay per click campaigns
    5) social media
    6) online directories
    7) press release
    8) seminars / training
    ...and so on
