The recent discussion on in thread gambling has got me thinking ;) Should people be allowed to create threads for personal blogs?

There are plenty of bogging sites out there, anyone else think these sort of threads should not be on a discussion forum? By all means submit a link to your blog and let people decide if it's worth reading.

I decided to start one yesterday . So I take it this is partly aimed at me .

Anyway I done this just to track my progress but mainly to get tips or certain advice of the lads on here who would have alot more experiance then myself .

Plus if you don't like these threads don't go into them . I personally love reading how other players are getting and often learn a thing or two from reading them

It's not aimed at anyone. A discussion forum and blog are completely different. A discussion board is used to solicit feedback from others and for generating dialogue. A blog is intended for a specific person/group to post ideas, thoughts, and articles. There are specific sites that are aimed for what you and others are creating the thread for. The poll/decision on gambling posts got me thinking whether these individual threads add any value; considering there are a number of threads (How did you score in your last round? etc..) the posts could contribute too.

For example, why not have a beginner questions/help/tips thread?

The name of your thread and the question for your poll could be confusing. People might be saying no to your thread title without reading the poll title, if you get me.

As for the poll I don't mind them at all, this is a golfing forum so seems like the best place for them. The likes of 'fixdepitchmark's blog on breaking 80 is very popular, more like that I say!

I think they should be allowed because....

Getting better at golf is a process. I like to hear of others journeys towards their goal. It is educational and the process is part and parcel of the game. I do not think any of the "blog" threads would actually stand up on their own as a blog (some would come close).
By staying informed of others progress, I can stand in awe of the quickly improving players and I can be comforted by reading of the struggles of others.

A beginners questions/help/tips thread would just be the same old "Get a lesson", "Come form inside to out to draw the ball and avoid a slice" "Watch Mark Crossfield videos on You Tube" etc. etc.

At the end of the day, because golf tends to be more than just a game (i.e. so many people become consumed by it) I find the blog threads an interesting read. So if someone wants to post one let them. If you do not like them, then just do not read them. Any thread is only as good as the content posted by it's contributors.

I'm one of those.answered based on the thread title, not the question.

I have no problem with them. If you're not interested then don't read them. I think they can be a good way for people to track their progress & see what way their frame of mind is at a given time in their golfing life.

They can make for some interesting reading & can also be a bit of support to the average hacker to know there are others sharing their pleasures & pains

Live & let live I say

I like them. It they were blogs I'd probably not read them as much but since they are here I check them.

I think polls/threads like this don't exactly serve as a "welcome" to the golf section of boards.ie
As someone said earlier don't click on it if you are not interested and what if you are bored of them, this forum is for the mutual appreciation of and for golf why shouldn't it include new people to the game and also boards. That's how I found this forum googling for information on the game. Some of the better threads in the golf section at the minute are blog types my life sub 80 comes to mind. Maybe you are trolling in that case I'm sorry I replied.

I think they should be banned.

Constant self indulgence, not good for the head.

No betting or look at me threads - too much golf on this forum too. ;)

Na - can see how they get a bit repetitive , but that is the nature of the net -people just move on to the next thing and someone else comes along and enjoys the thing you once enjoyed.

But yes - got bored of my own, myself. :p

Not really but I changed it anyway ;)

The point is it's a forum and not a blogging site. If suddenly the first page was taken up with people talking about they're personal journey's, I think I'd head off elsewhere.

If the content doesn't stand on it's own as a blog, then really it doesn't stand as thread on it's own either.

I nearly did and someone has already said they answered wrongly, I'd like to know the actual result of the poll though if there's anyway to reset it?

These blogs often have other people commenting and giving advice though, if it's just the creator posting away in it I can see your point.
