    Hi,

    We are thinking of getting a hand camcorder to record the ceremony part of wedding.
    Has anyone done this and is it worth doing so?

    Or would the quality not be good enough?

    Thanks

    heya,
    I've seen some decent ones done and of course some wobbly jerky scratchy bad ones too :)

    If it doesn't work out no harm done eh?

    heres a few things to consider;
    1. will the camera perform well in low light? some cams are great in bright situations but fail badly in dimly lit places (try and test beforehand)
    2. how important is audio? (a lot of the cheaper cams wont have very good audio functions on them) if the recording of vows or the music is important to you, then you might have to think about hiring or getting a loan of a digital recorder or two.
    3. who's going to operate the cam? (make sure they have practised with it and are competent, so they wont press wrong buttons etc. during the ceremony) - keep zooming down to an absolute minimum!!! make sure theres a tripod available for the camcorder
    4. the recorded footage will have to be edited and authored onto a CD or DVD (this can be a bit daunting if you haven't experience in this area, but it can be learned)

    good luck

    :)

    The short answer is no. The audio will be very poor to non-existent on a camcorder. The low light capabilities would also be pretty poor so your footage would be very dark and grainy not to mention the boredom of looking at the same camera angle for an hour.

    For the money you will waste on a camcorder you could get someone competent to do it for you for the same price or less if it's just the ceremony you wanted recorded and linked up with proper audio.
    If you want more info then PM me and I will be able to help you out
