Whistling brakes

As the title suggests I have a whistling noise from my brakes, it goes away when I break and might stay away, it might come back.

I had the car in with a mechanic for other stuff a had him to have a look. Said he took the breaks apart and cleaned and greased em back up. That was a few weeks ago and the noise is still there.

Do I just go back and say it to him? What is the worse case that could come from it? NCT and two long journeys coming up, so want to be sure.

    Thanks in advance

had this on the girlfriends car a few weeks ago. Brought it in for service to Citroen dealer. Its to do with rust on the brake discs or something to that effect. her car is a citroen but its common on others he said. Not a big issue, and doing the greasing etc takes it away for a while. But our guy recommended that we could probably change the brake discs next time..I would think its fine for NCT.

We were told its deffo not a problem. Just press the brakes when it makes the noise and it will stop it happening..

Ah cool, now that you mention I remember seeing some rust on the discs, I think it was sat on a garage forecourt for a while and that probably didn’t help. @ least I have piece of mind its OK and next time I have a few bob spare I can get look to get the discs changed.

Yes I do that a bit when its loud or when im in the car with other people and have the radio low.

    Cheers !!
