Hope a dentist can answer this for me.
I plan on going to the dentist about this next week but just hoping someone can tell me what this is.

I had massive pain in my front tooth (which i had crowned 5 years ago) which lasted less than 2 days, but i noticed the gum above had swelled up and was red and really painful to touch. now, almost 2 weeks later the swelling seems to have gone down a bit and its not really too sore at all. i didnt notice any drainage tho ? up until yesterday i could feel the swelling when I smiled or stretched my upper lip. That's almost gone now. Is this an abscess or something else?

You need to see a dentist and get an xray to see if the nerve has died. Might need a root canal at some point if so.

Was the tooth root canal treated before the crown?
If so, sounds like a re-infection of the tooth/root.
Also then possible that a post was placed, these sometimes are associated with a fractured root causing swelling and crown debond

If no previous root canal, highly likely that the crowned tooth has died and now become infected. A tooth can die for a number of reasons:
-It was dead before the crown and was not obvious...
-crown prepared teeth risk losing their vitality...
-a recent knock to the tooth
    -new decay around the root/crown
-poor crown marginal fit allowing leakage...

Get it seen and xrayed op and let us know...

    Os

Hi. I never had root canal. Had the crown done in dental hospital.
