Im sure your all we'll fed up of people asking these questions but im gonna ask anyway. So:

Sep 2009 did first year in lv 8 course, got grant. I didnt get into 2nd year.

Sep 2010 worked for few months and did some exams now have access to 2nd year.

I decided that the course wasnt for me as I couldnt handle the amount of maths

Sept 2011, started fetac 5 course in similar study area and completed with complete distinctions.

    Now: On Jobseekers.

So my question is I have found a course that I put in for a while ago, I should be able to get in this September though the CAO. I dont have the money to finance it now and wont be eligible for a grant as far as I know. I also wont be able to get BTEA either.

If I wait a year I will be eligible for BTEA as far as I know. So my questions is cant I get a grant somehow so I dont have to fart around for a year doing nothing when I could be in college??

Even if you do get BTEA next year, you'll have to pay full fees for first year from your own money. To be considered as a second chance student, you'll have to be out of education for 5 years, so basically you'll get BTEA payments but be liable to pay fees (probably about €5000, and the registration fee which will be around €2500 next year).

Where are the €5000 in fees coming from? I know id have to pay the registration free I expected that much.

Edit: You added in tuition, which I never knew about, its down as €704 on this site,http://www.dit.ie/registration/feesandgrants/fees/fees/

Ah sorry, I was just using an university degree as an example (much more expensive!), but yeah so it'd be €704 for the first year but after that you wouldn't have to pay it and could reapply for your grant!

I was hoping I could get grand then in second year. So it looks like I should hold out a year until eligible for BTEA which sucks because id love to go this year

Try and save some money throughout this year to help pay the fees and accommodation etc this year if you need it, maybe try and get some work experience in the area too!

Thats the plan. I tried to get work experience last year, I was told when your doing it with a college they pay for the insurance incase you break stuff. Since I would be on my own I would have to pay the insurance as I wouldnt be an employee of the company. So thats a bill of over €1000 to work for free. I will ask some other places though and see
