I've moved into a house in Navan and I've ordered Digiweb Metro. Hope to get an Engineer out sometime this week to try an install. Having looked at the Aerial there seems to be a small box already mounted to the aerial and I was wondering could this be an antenna from a previous install (which would get my hopes up about line of site!).

Looks like you are good. That looks like a fixed wireless antenna.

EDIT : Follow the cable. It may already be running into your house. Engineer might just need to connect up the modem.

The Antenna also needs a power source so this may also have to be supplied.

Looks very very like a Digiweb antenna. Check and see if the cable coming down from it is co-ax or cat5. If it's coax it's deffo a Digiweb antenna. They would be the only operator in Navan using the type of system that uses coax drop cable.

yours looks thinner and more rectangle, i think they are the same as net1's antenna's ;)

The pic you've shown Dazdrog is the old original DW Metro antenna. They upgraded it subsequently to a thinner design. The original was about 40mm thick as in your photo and the newer design is about 20-25mm as in the OP's post. The new DW one should be square also and that one looks fairly square to me (viewing on phone) although I'm not sure about the 2 screws in the side of it.

The cable type will tell for sure.

    OP,

I live outside Navan in Hayestown about 8 kms to the nearest mast but with good LOS and overall I have had a really good experience with the metro package since 2008. Phone and 30meg BB costs me about €45-€50 / month inclusive of all calls and BB. Line speeds are usually 18-22megs but I don't complain as the system is so reliable and great for netflix and youtube videos. I used to get a slight lag on some phone calls during first two years but that problem hasn't surfaced since approx 2010.

All in all I wouldn't switch anywhere else but I woudn't tell Digiweb that!

    Good luck with it.

    Hey,

It was indeed a digiweb antenna.

Overall I'm finding the service grand. The only thing is I get times where it just won't load pages for a minute. I've left the computer pinging a site and it pings away fine but web browsing just dies. I've used multiple DNS's with the same results.

Like yourself I'm getting 18-22 but have gotten the 30 on occasion.

The mytraffic.digiweb.ie doesn't seem to be updating my download allowance at all, it also says the metro xtra package is 120GB which is more than the 100GB stated on their sales page.

The phone line doesn't dial out at the moment but I'm sure I just need to ring them to fix that.

What are pings like on this? Thinking about getting it but worried the pings might be a little high.

    Around 20 or 30 ms

pings vary between 13-28 per speedtest.net using a wired connection to the wireless router.
