Can I put fridge on carpet

Getting a new fridge freezer and really have no space for it on the apartment kitchen floor. Is it ok to place this on the carpet? Will the fridge/freezer leak or damage the carpet in anyway? Cheers

i would put something hard under it first as it needs good circulation of air
