Giro helmets - which one

I have had a Giro Ionos for three years, before that another Ionos for year or so.

I'm looking at changing mine and am slightly confused by the Ionos, Atmos, Aeon helmets. Which one is Giros top end road helmet? Anyone have experience of more than one of them?

They all make you look like a mushroom but for different prices, that's about it. Mumble, mumble, weight, vents, mumble, aero something something.

If it helps I recently replaced a bashed Atmos with a Savant.

Aeon is the top end helmet, but I found the Savant had just about everything the Aeon had - the only substantive difference was weight - 240g for the Savant over 220g for the Aeon, but the Savant was less than half the price!

According to Giro the Savant is one down from the Atmos, but it certainly doesn't feel like it.

Admittedly though, the Aeon and Atmos look better :)

The Air Attack, when it comes out, looks pretty good too.

I don't know, it looks a bit too much like an ice hockey helmet for me.

As an aside, how do you pronounce Giro, same as Giro d'Italia or other? I always presumed it was pronounced in the Italian style but then I found out they're an American company so now I'm less sure.

I believe the Aeon and the Prolight are the current top Giro models, then the Ionos and then the Atmos...

The prolight had been introduced above the Ionos and the Aeon has since been introduced which only sacrafices a little in weight compared to the Prolight but has better ventilation.

All down to personal fit and comfort though!

Got the Aeon (2 in fact!) - great helmet - very light with a dial adjuster making it very easy to secure. I find it very comfortable

UCI would never sanction that frame geometry!

You forgot to mention the colour!..which is after all, the most important factor.

That's why I've got 2 - one for the red bike and another for the other bikes ...

So what you're saying is that it's important to have a helmet that matches your bikes? Or one that matches your kit? Which is faster is what I'm trying to work out really, as I'm in the process of buying a new helmet

My track bike is red with white and black trimmings, so it's important to have matching gear and helmet (my red kit)

My road bike is black with red, white and dark blue trimmings - can wear either the white kit/helmet or red kit/helmet combinations

My TT bike is pale blue and white with black trimmings, so I tend to stick to the white skinsuit with white aero helmet. Don't really like blue gear so I'm going to have to get a new TT bike - likely to be black with red and white trimmings;)

For Swords League races however all dress sense goes out of the window ...
