Red Mills Foods... What's the difference

I've collected my GSP at 8 weeks old. The breeder gave me a small bag of Red Mills "mother & pup" as that's what he's been on up to now. My local stores don't seem to carry that one though. But I've more places to try yet....

I've been online to Red Mills website. They have a baffling range of puppy foods: winner, leader, regular red mills puppy, mother & puppy......

Except for some tiny differences in protein levels, they all have pretty much the same description. So does anyone know anything about which one is best / most suitable.

There is no real answer its really down to your own choice complete food or giving meat as well I use gain nuts and cooked meat and a table spoon of cod liver oil..just follow the ages moving from pup to adult

There is more protein in puppy food to help with the pup growing.

Just an update on this one. I called Red Mills today and asked them this question. In fairness, they took a great deal of interest in my query knowing full well that I'm just a private individual and not a big retailer or something.

They had their nutritionist call me back within the hour!!! He explained that all of their puppy / dog foods have near enough the same nutritional values. The different ranges (ie: winner, breeder etc.) are different to each other in terms of the base ingredient. He said some are salmon and rice based while others are, well, different..... He then gave some other welcome advice.

He also put me onto my nearest retailer and told me that they will special order whatever I wanted. I did that, and my food is due in on Thursday.

A refreshingly professional approach from an Irish Company that I'll gladly support if their food is half as good as their customer service

    PS:

In fairness to them, a great company to deal with, and still a family business.
    Good luck with the pup.

I'm just re-lighting this one lads, as I'm curious to know if any of you place much heed on the "premium" foods?

What I mean is, do any of you notice any difference in your dog by giving him their premium Leader range vs their not so premium Winner, or Star range.?

Depending on the food, there's up to nearly €30 of a price difference.

I personally never used red mills as a food but my brother has with his G.Shepard, he recently swaped over to Royal canin german shepard breed and says he wont go back. He said that while on the red Mills you would be constantly cleaning after the dog and with the R.C he only has to lift once. I suppose some of the cheaper brands use more filler/ ash so this makes sense.
With the Premium ranges you dont have to Feed as much as there is less filler and more of what the dog needs. Condition wise his shepard looks good, i havent noticed a difference in him before/after but the brother says he is a different dog a lot happier and to boot less time sh;ting..

this is the difference i found between the red mills brand, used to use the worker and now use the engage beef, take's a little less of the engage feed and there is less of a mess, same as the other men found, i rang them up to see about buying direct as my usual dealer didnt always have it when i wanted it, got a call'd back and told that unless i bought a pallet it wouldn't be worth while, but they then give me a list of dealers near by and while on the phone was advised about all there products, i now get 10 bags delivered to the door for the same price i was driving 9 mile to collect 1 (or 4 as i usually bought) for

Am also feeding engage at the minute the purple bag although i'm gonna try tripe when the season comes but if you got enough lads here feeding engage or one of the other redmills range you could order the pallet and split the cost;).. i know a few guys that do that with other makes of nuts and its cheap enough...
