For a number of reasons I've ended up with a rainwater tank which has been ( i think) incorrectly set up & we've been given no advice on how to set it up. I even got into it today to figure out what was happening! Below is a quick description & my queries - any experience in running these well is appreciated

    • The gutters feed directly into the tank via a main intake pipe.Is there any sort of first flush diverter available that can be put in the ground?
    • Its a large precast tank with a vertical submersible pump
    • Only filtration on the way is in a little horizontal filter which clogs v quickly
    • About to fit a 2 stage self cleaning filter outside the tank ( a VF1 filter) - any experience with this other external filter?
    • The submersible pump was only 150mm off the tank floor, there is no floating intake - should there be?
    • Inside the tank there is a vertical downpipe with a calmed inlet, a siphon ( a large U) and some sort of anti backflow device/ box going to drain - is there anything missing from this setup?
    • mains topup - the tank has this but I'm reallynot sure at what level I should be trying to top up from & up to
    • Should i be tryin g to run the tank mainly full so that it overflow via a 'skimmer' or as low as possible?
