hi my aunt got me an apple laptop for my birthday, she lives in chicago though and was planning on sending it back. what's the story with tax on this? could it be marked gift? If she were to remove it from the packaging before sending it could it be marked second hand?

I'm not looking for ways of avoiding any tax mostly just seen as its a gift from a family member do i have to pay or can i get around paying the tax
