Lightforce lamp wiring problem?!

Just bought a new lightforce lamp- the one with the dimmer switch on it. I don't like the cigarette plug set-up so I took apart the cigarette connector to see if it possible to join the two wires directly to the battery. When I touched the wires off the battery, the light came on but when I flicked the switch- it stayed on and wouldn't go off at all. I'm afraid to cut the wire and put clips on it in case it won't turn off at all - like it did when I tested it? Does anyone know why this would be happening or does anyone know how i can wire the lamp directly to the battery properly so I can flick the light on and off with the switch?

i cut mine and it works perfect the other option is get a female adapter and cut it and lenten the wire on it and put croc clips on that leaving the plug on your lamp . but when using it put tape over the connection or you will pull it out .

Thanks for that ye. I have a female adaptor connected to the battery- I think it's that male/flame connection that's given me the trouble because the doesn't really tun on and off as it should. I know I should be able to just cut the wire and crac clip it to the battery but I'm wary of doing it on this lamp because it's a brand new one and when it took apart the cigarette plug and tested the wires that way, it wouldn't turn off at all. Do you know why this would this be? Or do you think I should be ok just cutting the wire and croc clipping it?
