I am trading in a 2003 e320 merc with 150000 miles, the garage are giving me 5 k for it. The car is like new but the tax is huge and nobody wants the big engine. I want to get into a 2008 e220 Cdi with 60000 miles on the clock....the garage want 21000 off me along with my car!!' is this crazy??

Yes it is, car is barely worth that on its own. Should be more like €14/€15k cost to change. Tell them to fook off.

Not a great idea while the government are lookin into putting up tax on c02 efficient cars.

21 k is too much for the 08 never mind along with yours especially if it's the same body shell as yours

You'd get an 75000 mile 09 220cdi old model for €17000, vrt is 4400 so for the trade in price you'd have a year newer plus whatever you flog the old one for,
