Ford Mondeo boot not opening - problem

Hi. I am travelling in France and after arriving and unpacking at a campsite outside Paris last night we went to pick up some groceries. When we got to the shop the boot wouldn't open. The car is a 2008 Ford Mondeo 4 dr. The fob was lost a few years ago so we've been using the spare key to manually open the drivers door which opens everything.

I managed to get into the boot through the back seats but can't see anything wrong (like loose wires) and can't get boot open. The main problems are, we travel with a lot of stuff incl a roofbox which is full. We need to be able to get at the boot. We could go through the rear seats I know, but at UK customs we were stopped and searched on the way over, and when we go back next weekend the Olympics will have started and security will be much tighter. Also if we get a puncture we will be rightly knackered.

I've searched online and found people with similar problems on talkford.co.uk - but the cars always seem to be older. They had problems with the 'drivers door problem', solenoids, loose wires and stuff like that but I couldn't find anything like our problem. There does not appear to be a switch system for manually opening the boot. When you try to open it after opening the car, you can hear a small clicking noise like its trying to do something electrically but nothing happens. I was hoping for a quick solution so if anybody has any tips I'd be very grateful - I have only limited internet access

Is there no manual release lever in the drivers side cabin? If not, I would just get straight to a mechanic as this is a big inconvenience.

Hi Goz - There does not seem to be a release lever anywhere. There is a release for the bonnet on the passenger side - but thats it. Never realised how inconvenient it is not having a keyhole on the boot for situations like this

Quick update. Tried a few places here including a Norauto, a Feu Vert and an actual Ford garage - with no luck at all. There is a panel above where the passenger feet go and when you try the boot you can also hear a clicking noise coming from it as well as the boot. It could be some kind of electrical problem or maybe the lock itself needs replacing.

I'm just wondering now does anybody know a way to open the boot - maybe from the inside with string or something as there is no keyhole, release lever or fob and I could live with string for now until we get home.

    Cheers

This happened my mondeo also. It turned out to be a piece of my toolcase got wedged in the gap between the boot and the rear bumper. You can hear the clicking but the boot release is curved upwards so it cannot release.

I used to push down hard on the boot while you press the release key. It will then release the lock and pop open. Seems counter intuitive but it worked for me.

Spray WD 40 into the lock (lots of it) and onto the key,,,

These Mondeos don't have a key hole in the boot, only the drivers door.

The one I drive every day doesn't ;);)

You could only get at the lock from the inside.

Got the WD40 after a bit of looking but no joy. Tried Damiens suggestion as well to no avail. Just wanted to say thanks for the tips - going to just go with it as it is and hope for the best.

Is there not a hidden keyhole underneath where the reg plate lamps are?

This has happened once or twice on my 09 Mondeo but if I hold the button on the boot lid for 2 or 3 seconds it seems to allow it to open.

If case it's an issue with the key, put it in the locked door and unlock the car twice (I.e. Unklock it by turning the key to the left in the door and then do it again straight away) see if that works

I got the same issue. Did u manage to fix it ? Any suggestions are more than welcome .... :)

    Hi Dvutkov

The boot still doesn't open. We couldn't get it fixed on holidays. When we got home we brought it one of those autokey places as we assumed it was the fact that we hadn't got a remote key. However the guy programmed the new key and the boot still didn't open. We've been told we have to get a new locking mechanism and we're now waiting for our mechanic to get the part. We've just been going in through the rear seats for the last while. Sorry I can't be of more help.
