Going to see a used car tomorrow, how can I check if mileage is genuine? Would an online car check help on this?

Online car checks can only help you if someone has entered the mileage on a database at some time or another. An example would be a UK car that would have its mileage registered when entering the country. Another way would be if someone has entered the mileage at a time previous when doing a check. There is no NCT data linked to the online checks. You might get lucky, or you might get no results at all, but its worth the risk considering all of the other data you get.

The best way to certify mileage is to have a fully documented service history from garages that you can ring up yourself. After that it goes on visual inspection for cabin wear etc.

You can always tell somewhat by the condition of the pedals.

How much are they worn? And the condition of the Drivers seat, gear lever, carpets in the cockpit area, etc

Not really. I have a car with close to 200,000 miles and the pedals are bearly worn, not a mark on the seats or the carpet. Gear stick and steering wheel are also in very good condition. Some cars wear beter than others. Also depends on how well they were minded and the type of driving they done. For example a car with 150,000 motorway miles will have no more ware on the above mentioned parts than a similar car that has 50,000 town miles.

Some vag group cars can be checked via vag-com (vcds). The millage is stored in the ecu as well as the clocks. Most clocking crowds only change the millage on the clocks and not the ecu. It can be changed on the ecu but I beieve its a bigger job. Not sure if the same applys for any other brands..

.... pedal rubbers are easily replaced when worn, so too floormats :)
