Was my tracking done

Had my tracking done today, dropped it at a tyre place and he said to collect it half an hour laer.

Came back, he said he tracked it front and rear, I know it was off because the tyres were wearing on the inside.

However when I came back to collect my car, it seemed to be parked in the same place I left it.

When I am driving it the steering wheel is slightly off centre and it was off centre by the same amount before he tracked it.

So there was no change in the steering position.

The car is pulling slightly to the left but I don't think it was before.

Is there any way I can check if the tracking was done.

Should I bring it back and insist the steering wheel is straight when the car is going straight.

Should I forget about it, write the 50 euro off to experience and bring it some where else to get the tracking checked and wait while they do it.

cars are suppose to pull to the left for safety.

was it ever crashed? track rods changed?

agree with above...get them to drive it

OP I would definitely come back and ask them to make the steering wheel straight when driving straight.
Also I would ask for a printout from their machine showing all the angles.

Is is a 4 wheel drive?

It is a hybrid so it has 4 Wheel Drive but the rear wheels are driven by an electric motor. Most of the time it is 2 wheel drive.

It was never crashed and I think the tracking was messed up when I got it done about a year ago when I changed the tyres. That was when the steering wheel went off square.

    No suspension parts ever changed.

Good idea to get them to drive it.

When I got the car new it never pulled to the left and I think the NCT check for that anyway.

    RX400h I'd assume

Thought you needed special equipment to do these?

No they're not!!! There's nothing safe about it, it's a fault that needs fixing.

Road cambers to the left so you'd have the car following that. It's not a feature

When I got it serviced the lexus garage just said the tracking was off and bring it to a tyre place to get it tracked

I must google see if I need any special equipment.
Might explain how 2 places made a mess of it.

And it is an RX 400h

Don't trust what people tell you in the future.

Car is meant to go straight ahead. If it's pulling to the side, it means there is something wrong.

Also how would you imagine, that they do suspension setup for RHD or LHD traffic to make sure it's pulling to the correct side. What if someone was driving in RHD car on the continent?

All pure nonsense. Car must go straight.

much more appreciation for the posters who clarified that without the air of obnoxiousness.

What's obnoxious about his post? I think it is important that your original statement be corrected in the clearest possible manner.

Holy crap people. Chill. I think the point was clear, but there was a bit condescending talk. ANy further discussion on this will not serve to further validate a point, which had clearly been corrected before the apparent obnoxious intervention.

When you get tracking done you should be handed a print-out of the before/after values.

There is no special equipment needed as such, but you would need proper equipment capable of the full range of 4 wheel alignment, and, more importantly, someone who knows how to use it.

Do you have the same brand and spec of tyres all around?

Also is the tyre thread depth and pressure the same, left and right?

It's a car that has four driven wheels, but it's not a true 4WD vehicle as the rear and the front are not connected, so there's a little less need for any speciality equipment.
However, it should be easy enough to get a proper 4-wheel alignment done.

As part of any alignment, the steering wheel should be centered and the wheels then aligned to suit, especially on any car that has any stability control that relies on an accurate steering wheel position to determine the requested direction. If the steering wheel is not centred then the ESP will not be able to operate correctly and may cause some unexpected behaviour if a skid were to occur.

If you feel that the car hasn't been done you should bring it back to them.

Oh, and all cars should be absolutely dead centre and zero pulling when on a straight and level road. Significant following of the road camber is indicative of very worn or out of spec suspension components and needs to be addressed quickly as that is a safety hazard.

    +1

OP's car did not have the tracking done. Or at least not properly.

    Thanks all,

I will put the cost down to experience, there is no point in going back to the same place again if they could not get it right the first time.

I need to find someone better in the North West. Anyone any recommendations.

And thanks for all the advice everyone, I have realised even if it was done, it was not done properly.

    Cheers
