Parking the car at the beach

I decided this should go in the Waterford City forum as a lot of us city folk travel out to our lovely clean blue flag beach in tramore.

My question is this, why are we being asked to pay €2 for a parking disc out in Tramore to have to park in the moon cratered car park at the back of the toilets at the far end of the prom?
Its a bit of a joke and I would not be suprised if cars were damaged to some extent. The least Tramore town council could do is spend some of the money they collect from the discs on re-surfacing the car park

Also, there are a number of caravans in there on a permanent basis, do these caravans display parking discs and do the parking wardens issue tickets to them? I think I know the answer to this one....

Also, as in previous years, we have motorhomes taking up more than one parking space, do they buy two discs and do they get fined if they dont, I even seen one today that was parked beside the skate park that was in a single space but took up half of another space with its sunshade canopy and deck chairs? As well as this there were an number of drivers of cars that appeared to be unable to park in a single parking space properly, do these cars ever get tickets for poor parking or taking up two spaces.

Apologies if this sounds like a rant, I am not angry or frustrated about this, I am just asking the question, I am sure I am not the only one that has witnessed this either this year or last. I love Tramore at this time of year, in fact at any time of year, I just think that the Town Council is doing tourism in Tramore a disservice in relation to parking, its a nice little money earner for them.

Moving to Waterford County - all county discussion goes there.

To the best of my knowledge (unless I am getting the car parks mixed up) -- its a private car park and the council cant do much about it. They have access to it but afaik that's about it.

Those motorhomes should not be allowed there, to the best of my knowelege its not permitted but the Guards just leave it.

While I agree with you on the paying for parking when the road isn't the best. It's only for the summer, which is fair enough.

I hate ranting on here but two things that are absolutely pointless are the roundabout on the quay. It looks like its only going to be one lane? Do they plan on changing the one way system going up into town cause now the road is only coming down onto the roundabout.

The steps they are building into the casino down Johns Lane. It's so hard to get down there and get back out again.

Its the one going down to the sandhills, the other is blocked off. It also has a parking sign on the entrance stating june to august.

Improving tourist facilities in the town is at the very bottom of the Town Council's list of priorities, below fighting with colleagues, living in Wales etc.

just buy the ticket, scratch the nessesary like the year but not date and use for the summer, just be nice to the traffic warden, has worked for many for few years now......think of how many times ya pull up or park for a few minutes down around by the beach over the summer, realy do they want us to buy a ticket each time?!

and is tom raine still living in wales and why??

Park at the Majestic and walk down?

I found a space beside a crater, I would walk to Tramore, thats not the point. The point is that they are charging people to park in a bombsite.

Of course they are, and will continue to do so as long as people pay.

I'd try the suggestion from blankAs, and then a ****ty letter to the Town Council, but it probably will fall on deaf ears.

Also do what I do, hand your ticket when your leaving to someone who is about to park up...its a day long ticket !!!! whereas I'd mainly spend max 2hrs out there....

Do what I do, park in the middle of the crater and paddle in, the traffic warden won't paddle out to see is your ticket valid:)

there aree some lovely beaches past Tramore, no parking charges, if the council are no help then don't support them, if trade takes a turn for the worse the traders might get up and do something, they make enough.

In all fairness Tramore Tidy towns are doing their best to keep the town clean and slowly adding features however their lacking alot of funds. It's disgrasful in my eye.

I agree with the parking, on a good day the place is jam packed with no where to park. There is a carpark by the toilets blocked up, I can understand the reason but they should open it in the summer, may not be the best but its better then parking in the deathtrap beside it!

    Maybe someday they'll understand..

Its not the job of Tidy Towns to act as a spin off the council. Its heading that way alright, which I think is a disgrace. Why do we pay rates, taxes, and so on for this exact service when a voluntary group has to step in and do it? Money being spent on a cycle lane to and from Waterford when the money could be aimed at cleaning up places like this.

The mind boggles. The Tidy Towns do some fantastic work, but they are going above and beyond the all of duty because they want to keep the town tidy. They might as well just replace the council.
