    Looking for help
My 03 transit T280 with 84 thousand on the clock

Went to cork from dublin and the fuel gauge is a bit iffy so there was about about a quarter of a tank,so I stuck 50 euro in it drove down and picked up a motorbike on the way back I ran out of diesel about twenty mins out of cork got towed to a garage and fitted a new filter and put 40 euro, and back on the rd comming up to Maas I had to stop again and get another 20,

So all in all I put 110 euro and I done 300 miles rd trip average 21 mpg
    Is this right or wrong

    Thanks for your help !!!

Seems abit steep would expect low 30's but belting down motorway at full(ish) trottle with strong wind against you?.... notice much or any black/white smoke out of exhaust? & How hard were you driving?

We'd need to know the speed. It would be steep if you were cruising along at 70/80kph but probably normal enough if doing 120/130kph.

It's the lord punishing your heavy right foot.
    He sees everything I'm afraid.
Say a rosary and ask for forgiveness.

    Best of luck

Dublin to Cork return in a transit currently is €110-€130 in Diesel, Dublin to Belfast and back is normally €100-€120 depending on the driver. We do this run regularily and that's what they burn, on average, foot to the floor:)

Thats low MPG for the Transit.
110 euro is approx. 75 litres of Diesel which is almost a full tank on a transit.
I have a 04 with 106,000 miles (regularly serviced) and I get 500+ miles from a tank (approx 33mpg) and thats generally Dublin City driving with it semi laden. I would expect a bit more on a long steady run!
If you were not carrying any weight other than the motorbike and you put a new air filter in it, you definately have a problem somewhere.
Check that the rear wheel brakes are not binding, van should roll easily on a very slight hill if their ok. Otherwise you are into the motor and its best getting to a Garage to check it out.
I find Lillis O Donnel on the Naas Rd near The Mad Cow interchange are very good and reasonable with their charges.

I've 5 of them. I must check all their brakes. You cannot compare city driving to a long motorway blast, you'll eat diesel in a transit on the motorway as the wind resistance is huge, go over 100kph and the diesel gauge starts to drop like a stone. Keep it lit at 120kph loaded and you are into 20 mpg ish territory. Anyway.. Also, those transits are sh1te geared, at 120 they are screaming for a sixth gear and that increases consumption dramatically. I have larger Ivecos that use far less due to better gearing and also have smaller vans that eat diesel on a long run due to too high revs due to crap ratios. The Ivecos are the lightest on juice as they just cruise at 120 with low revs. they use c.a €80 to a transits €110.

& also Dublin to Cork about 160miles round trip of at least 320miles & add a few more miles driving around Cork city you might find you've done a lot more than 300miles as stated in original post?

I would only see 100kph on the M50 and even on the 120 section would usually not bother over 110. If your on the floor all the time I suppose you would see different results. But thanks for interesting figures as I hope be changing next year and with the price of diesel these days:rolleyes: I'll be looking for something better on fuel.
Re Brakes, my brother had this problem with his tranny after fitting cheap shoes that started binding, its where I got that from.

The Traffic murders the Transit in the economy stakes, night and day. Same goes for performance. Also, define a Transit - mine go from 80 -115 Hp, SWB to box bodies, fwd and rwd, so theres a fair mix. One things the same tho, they're all crap on diesel.:)
