No Muay Thai or kickboxing but there is Boxing, Judo, Karate, Kenpo and Tae Kwan Do

Thats not on. I'm thinking of boxing, but would rather a martial art that involves kicking aswell.

Which one of the martial arts involves the most kicking and punching , i'm not interested in all this grabbing and throwing stuff...

Not too sure. I just checked to the DUCAC site to see if there was a club for you.

If you want one though and can find enough people interested in it I think you can form a Sports Club with funding from DUCAC

Karate and TaeKwon Do are both kicking and punching... not sure about the others.
The TaeKwon Do club is growing pretty quicklyand competeing at an international level, so it's good.

As stated eariler, Karate and TKD have kicking and punching, as does Kempo, but I think the Kempo club may be more or less inactive; best check that one out. We were teaching some striking in Judo last year and the year before but I don't think they'll be doing it this year.

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason you're not interested in grappling or is it just that it's not for you?

Not any more, unfortunately. There's a cap on how many clubs DUCAC will support, and about two years ago they stated at the AGM that they won't support any more martial arts clubs.

OP, the best place for Muay Thai would be the Wild Geese Martial Arts centre just across the road from the Sport Centre. They teach Muay Thai there. Go to http://www.wildgeesema.com/ if you want to give them a look.

It just doesn't appeal to me ,it takes the action out of the fight me thinks.

I don't think I'd be interested in paying 60 euro a month for muay thai classes, thats why the college should have them!

Fair enough if it doesn't appeal to you, but if you reckon grappling takes the action out of the fight, I'd strongly recommend you try one Judo session and see if you're still of the same opinion after it! I took up Judo because I could no longer do TKD due to a leg injury. Like you, I wasn't a grappling fan at the time, but I quickly began to love it.

Whats the kenpo club called at TCD and is it affiliated to the EKKA?

Dublin University Kempo Club. It was under the auspices of the WKKA, I think, and I'm also pretty sure it's gone now.

Kenpo is long gone. There is a new club called Tang Sou Dao or something like that, which were making some claims about being a modernised version of Tang Soo Do (basically Korean Karte) which includes elements of Muay Thai, don't know how much MT is in it though.

There is a Jui Jitsu club in college. There is a growing interest for Muai Thai, however, nothing is official yet, If you know someone in the college who is willing and able to train you, you might be able to work out a deal with DUCAC and the Boxing club to use the facilities.

I don't know anyone who can teach Muay Thai

I could probably teach the basics, but after that, you'd need a real trainer

    e-mail is tcd.taekwondo@gmail.com
There's a facebook group, but it's closed until you're a member if I recall correctly.
I was a member/ committee member for a couple of years until I got preggers, give me a shout of there's anything you want to know about the club :)

There's no Jiu Jitsu club in college. We were teaching it in the Judo Club but not any more.

I doubt it. I can't go into details, but DUCAC won't be very forthcoming.

    From DUCAC:
"Currently there is a cap on the number of sport clubs, therefore only if a club leaves will a new club be considered.
It is also stipulated that in order to be considered for ratification the sport must be recognised by the Irish Sports Council."

    i pay 80e a month for Muay-Thai lol

its great when you get into a MA.....does wonders for your confidence and self respect. As my trainer says your training reflects all aspects of your life in a positive way if you train positively.

That was a statement made in October 2010, I don't know what their stance is now on the matter.
