Took a good look around London today (HN, Harrods, etc), looks like the velvet tux jacket/jeans combo is in, right?

however, the jackets appear to be pretty short, too short.

thoughts? anyone seen these styles appearing on the streets in Dublin?

    Yes!

The brown suit jacket would be ideal though, the tuxedo jacket is far too formal for anything but a wedding.

Wouldn't know where you'd get them in town though, TK Maxx maybe?

Love the velvet blazer, so plush and slick looking. For a second hand one try Flip/Helter Skelter beside the Central Bank. They usually have loads.

I think the tuxedo jacket is a but much, I don't really know how you'd wear it? What would you put with it?

I got a lovely black pinstripe velvet blazer for about €30 in Eager Beaver, they always have a decent range in there. I'd go for something already worn in unless you have a lot of formal events to go to. I've spotted some nice navy ones in Hugo Boss in the Kildare Village for less than €100 too, so you never know. I'd advise not going with any facing on the lapels, a la a tuxedo blazer with grossgrain or silk, it's too formal. Stick to velvet all over, and probably either a notch or peak lapel- peak if you want some extra pizazz!

I'll be brutally honest, OP- you have to have a bit of a brass neck to wear it, because it's a bit 'out there' for a lot of people. Although I will admit it's pretty great for inviting stroked arms. ;)

I prefer being a bit over dressed for events, so I'm fine with it.

So true. You have a great way with words challenging us to push the boundaries. How could we resist that?! LOL!

    Many thanks for the tips.
