its that box thingy in your house hooked up to the phone line which has flashy lights..

Doesnt actually connect to the internet at all at all. Its a router that plugs into your box thingy and allows you to high speed stream around the house.

    Good deal,

There's a reason why this is cheap. Netgear make terrible products. Save yourselves a load of grief and get something decent like Cisco/Linksys.

I think the point is that device is not a modem, and requires an ADSL or Cable Modem to 'make' the connection. All this does is allow clients to connect wirelessly at a higher speed. You'll still need your 'thingy with the flashing lights', connected to your phoneline or cable.

Some of the reviews on this product on amazon are pretty poor!

    "Avoid at all costs"
    "Unsupported, unreliable, terrible customer service"
    "£32 paper weight"

I've got to say, I've a Netgear DSL modem, and I can't fault it. Maybe I'm just lucky. :)

The Cisco routers with UPC are well, quite frankly . A piece of ****.

But excluding them, they make good products.

That was the case back in 2005, in the hey-day of the WRT54g, but these days, it's Linksys that are making crap, and Cisco... well, unless you're stumping up for enterprise gear, is the same broadcom driven single board rubbish as everyone else.

Oh, and by the way. Cisco, right now, are beyond disregarding privacy.

    Bought it.

There are quite a few good reviews among the odd bad ones quoted.
Will give a quick review once I get it.

    Thanks OP.
