    Is the jurisdiction of the tort relevant to the case?

    What happens if the tort is committed in a different country?

    would you have to use that country's legal system rather than the Irish legal system?

    Its a complex area, covered by a number of regulations.

    It's either where the defendant resides or the place of the tort. The legal system of that country doesnt have to apply. There are specific rules in relation to this though.
