The problem with boarding in places like FUE and other places is that the staff at the gate are always third party, most of whom hate Ryanair themselves. It's almost like they enjoy treating people like **** but in reality they are just following Ryanairs very strict boarding rules. If they never received the information about her condition then are they just suppose to take her word at face value? You'd be amazed at how many people lie that they have a medical condition or some other excuse in order to bring on extra luggage. Clearly information like this needs to be sent to staff at gates more efficiently to avoid ordeals like this in the future.

Apparently she had a doctors letter so no they didn't have to accept at fæce value.

No point in defending Ryanair or making excuses really. The pig attitude comes from the top, and the masochist Irish consumer seems to love it, makes them feel like they're getting value!!

I for one would take Aer Lingus, BA, or ANY other airline flying out of Dublin if I had a choice. Well maybe not Onur Air, or Air Congo or Air Koryo (if the flew here!), but that's it!

Yes, the biggest problem for Ryanair is that there are so many Irish chancers out there which makes it hard to spot those telling the truth. I've seen it time and time where people talk sh'it to try and blag extra bags.

The girlfriend brings injections in a cooler bag with her but she always makes sure to put them in her hand luggage since she knows the policy of the airline. I think the policy does make sense as not only would people abuse the 1 hand luggage rule if not strictly enforced (as was obvious with aerlingus before they started getting strict) but it really slows down boarding waiting for people to put up multiple bags and then the air cabin staff needing to put hand luggage in the hold because there is no room. It turned me off flying aerlingus because there were many occasions that my bag had to be put in the hold because some idiots got away with bringing multiple bags on.

I'm trying to figure out what the problem is here as those colostomy bags don't appear to be very big so why didn't either the mother or daughter just put it in their hand luggage and take it out during the flight if needed or if they really needed it in the 10-20 minutes before allowed to leave their seat either conceal carrying it or take it out immediately after putting their bags in the overhead storage.

Looks to me these were two simple people or looking to make a mountain out of a molehill and there is something that is not being told by them here.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve with the thread title? You know, it is quite acceptable to like Ryanair for allowing you to travel cheaply a dozen times a year to visit family and still dislike some of their carry on

I had some doctors letters when I was in college too.... (Im not claiming this letter was fake but you get my drift on how easy it is to get one)
Seems she couldnt get through on the phone and because of this Ryanair didnt know about the situation and so didnt authorise anything extra.

I did some work for a company handling Ryanair flights.
The best thing about handling them was you knew exactly the way it was.
No amount of screaming, shouting or scene making changed that.
Sadly this is where this woman has then suffered.

strict rules? they are pretty fair and clear to be honest. book, check in online, print, bring your boarding pass and have ONE item of hand luggage that is less than 10kg and is a specified (normal) size.

its a simple concept that people for some reason just cannot grasp. they are happy to accept fares for €30 or €40, even less at times, but then they are not happy to stick to what is a simple policy.

the only problem with Ryanair is the idiots that fly with them.

There is more to this story than is being told

Colostomy bags are pretty discreet , my daughter has one and you truly wouldn't know.

As for carrying a spare(s) , we always do , they take up very little space , the whole kit , spray to remove old one, bag to put old one in , barrier wipe , new bag , tie and cotton wool to wipe the mess takes up about the same space as a paperback book.

They were obviously trying to carry this in a separate bag to their hand baggage . Solution from a person not looking for aggro from the gate staff. Put it in your hand baggage in a small bag , get to your seat , remove from your bag and put it somewhere discreet.

Of course , you can always , have a second bag knowing this may cause issues , then complain to your local TD !!
