VW Passat B5.5 Emissions Workshop

    My friend has a 1.9 TDi 130 bhp AWX passat and we were driving along this eveing when the check engine light came on and said 'Emissions Workshop' and now every time now he starts the car this message appears and the check engine light comes on,

    The funny thing is the car seems to be driving perfectly :confused:

    Why is the car showing this message and what does it mean?

    and is it still safe to drive the car when it is showing the check engine light?

    It means that some component of the engine electronic system is malfunctioning or giving an incorrect reading.

    There could be dozens of causes. Only way to know is to have it diagnosed properly.
