It's absolutely no harm to say you're nervous if they ask- it is expected. They will expect you to be, as they will have seen from your application/CV that you've no experience and they have still shortlisted you- major achievement when competition is so fierce by the way. It's most important to portray a good attitude and explain that you are willing to work hard. That's what they'll be looking for from you. Knowledge of their brands and the company would help- look up their 'ethos'- they'll usually have it on the website in the career section anyway and it help you see what they want in an employee. A common question is 'What do you know about the company?' in retail intervies- don't rattle off their wikipedia page, but know where it was founded and now based, and when and who they cater for-target market.

They'll want to see that you are friendly and able to get on with customers and coworkers. You might be asked how you deal with conflict? Essentially, they are looking for someone who will work hard with a good attitude and get on with everyone they have to work with. In retail, you always come across coworkers who resent being told what to do, I've witnessed a lot of these people walking out of the job because they can't handle it. So they absolutely do not want the waste of time and money those people are.

Look up common questions- your strengths, weaknesses, what you can offer, a time you worked well as part of a team (school project? lcvp is good), what you know about the company and brands, how you would deal with a troublesome customer (be polite and firm while explaining what can be done for them, refer to manager) etc. Know what would be involved, in a shoe shop you are either on the floor dealing with customers, getting sizes for them, or the designated till person. Stockroom positions deal with the deliveries, and put back all of the tried on shoes, essentially.

A good indication for what you should wear to the interview is what the uniform is like, which is pretty informal and kind of 'fun' for a retail uniform anyway. A full on suit is out of the question, male or female. Wearing a shirt and slacks is fine, but going more casual than that would probably be welcomed by them, a good polo shirt and jeans, you could absolutely get away with that but if you're too cautious of that, go the shirt route.

I really think a shirt and slacks, at least, for any interview is the way to go. It just shows you are willing to make the effort.

Shoes, shirt and slacks. Don't wear a suit

Tis hot at the moment and arrive in good time, don't be rushing and panicking and show up sweating. Be there early and you can chill for a while outside

Have some examples of when you worked well in a team, gave good service to someone, stuff like that

Have some info on the company, look how long they are in Ireland, what cities and so on

Have a good question prepared. Are they expanding, did you see some financial news, are they going to be taken over. It shows an interest and you are aware and keeping up to date

Emphasize you are punctual and reliable
For example, maybe you play on a football team and you help the coach and you are always on time and organizing
Staff who are late will break a managers heart so they want good staff they can rely on

You are guaranteed to get asked how you dealt with a difficult person and a stressful situation or since this is your first job, how you would deal with this when it happens. Have an example ready

    Good luck!

Then join ranting & raving forum and post on cries of retail thread :D
It for hard working retail staff to get issues of their chest
