Fobs not working - roadworks?

What do you reckon on this guys - earlier this afternoon i got home and my next door neighbours fobs weren't working in either of their two cars and mine wasn't working either! I had no probs when I was out and my neighbour drove one of their cars up the road and the fob worked. Just tried mine there and it's working again. There's been roadworks going on all day at traffic lights around the corner - my neighbour thinks that they were causing the problem but some of other neighbours who were home tried their's and no probs? Has anyone heard of this or had it happen? I drive an 11 year old battered jeep blocked in the drive by an even more battered Volvo - they both have 08 i30s so I think if it was anything suspicious they'd be the ones in danger?

    This happened to me also
A few times when i park outside the local Garda station the remote central locking (key fob) refuses to work
Once i open it with the key and drive 20 yards up the street in works perfectly again
On asking the shopkeeper who is directly opposite he told me this is not an uncommon occurance .He told me that it happens on a regular basis to some people and that one particular vehicle refuses to start if parked here
I woundnt believe it if someone else told me but ???

Car fobs generally use wireless frequencies in the ISM band which are free to use for any purpose really. It is quite possible that a construction crew could be using radio's on 433Mhz that could interfere with the operation of a car fob for example. Or in the case of roadworks perhaps they might use an ISM band transceiver to control temporary traffic lights... not suspicious by any means.

We use similar fobs for a loyalty card system. Funniest thing I'd heard was a local who swore that since the store got in the system, his analogue tv reception went to pot. :D
